We'll get back to our recap of the Top 10 Drivers of 2004 on tomorrow's show (12/21), but there's been a ton of news lately, so we wanted to get you up to date.

First Sprint has merged with Nextel in the wireless world, so what does this mean for the NASCAR Nextel Cup? Officials insist nothing will change for the 2005 season, NASCAR CEO Brian France "“NASCAR’s premier national series will continue to be known as NASCAR NEXTEL Cup in 2005 and will build on the outstanding success of the 2004 season. NASCAR’s 10 year agreement remains in place and all of NASCAR is looking forward to great success in the years to come.”

Bill Weber and Allen Bestwick will be swapping duties when the NBC portion of the season starts in July next year. Weber will handle the main call of the race in the booth, and Bestwick will be the lead pit reporter.

Mike Bliss has officially been inked to drive the #0 Netzero Cup car for 2005 and beyond, it's a three year deal. Many thought Brendan Gaughan was the frontrunner for that car, and this leaves him without a Cup ride so far for next year.

The two qualifying races for the Daytona will be a bit different next year. The Gatorade Twin 125's will now be 150 miles, and will be called "the Gatorade Duel At Daytona" Look for it on Feburary 17th.

If you think teams are sitting around drinking egg-nog this holiday season, think again. Kentucky Speedway was busy last week with teams getting a head start on 2005 rules changes that include a shorter spoiler. At the track were Greg Biffle, Jason Leffler, Tony Stewart, Bobby Labonte, John Andretti, Mike Bliss, and Justin Labonte.
