IS DANICA COMING TO NASCAR? THE INTERNET IS BUZZING ABOUT THIS POSSIBILITY

Danica PatrickDanica Patrick is certainly on fire these days when it comes to popularity. After her first career win coming at Japan a couple of weeks back, she has been on a whirlwind media tour.  Danica has become the first female winner in the IRL coming after 50 career starts.  So what is next for her?  Well there are rumblings of her coming to NASCAR, and more specifically Roush Racing.  Why this particular team?  Apparently she had some discussions with Roush/Fenway officials recently and word of this got out.

According to Jack Roush himself (who did not speak with Danica) "I think Danica, from what I understand, has got an interest in stock-car racing, any sponsor, any team owner that felt the need to have more of a diverse situation in their driving lineup would look at Danica very favorably."

Open wheel drivers seem to be coming to NASCAR in droves, however their on track performance remains to be seen.  Juan Pablo Montoya, a 7 time Formula One winner has one Cup win at Infineon, and second place finishes this past weekend at the ovals of Talladega and last year at Indy.  Sam Hornish Jr., an IRL and Indy 500 Champ is still figuring these big heavy stock cars out, and the same goes for Patrick Carpentier and Dario Franchitti.

Roush also said "Any driver that presumes that they can sit in and drive one of these NASCAR cars needs to think long and hard about whether they've really prepared themselves for the experience, I don't know. I'm of the opinion that unless you've been successful in a number of different venues on a professional level, or you've spent time in our Craftsman Truck Series or our Nationwide cars, I would find it hard to imagine that you'd really be ready to get into a Cup car."

Danica coming to NASCAR would be huge for all involved, but eventually on track performance will need to match the hype.
